The Printronix T800 is a 4-inch enterprise desktop thermal printer that brings industrial-class features, such as the Printronix System Architecture (PSA), remote management and optional UHF RFID encoding, into a compact clamshell body. It suits businesses that print up to around 2,500 labels a day and want desktop size without giving up the reliability, language emulation and fleet management of an industrial printer.
Overview: where the T800 fits
The T800 sits at the top of the desktop segment in the Printronix Auto ID range. It was the first Printronix desktop model built on PSA, the same platform used in the T4000, T6000e and T8000 industrial printers, so the control panel layout, menu structure and management tools are common across the family. An operator trained on a T6000e or T8000 will find the T800 familiar.
There are four configurations. The T820 is the 203 dpi standard model and the T830 is the 300 dpi standard model. The T82R (203 dpi) and T83R (300 dpi) add a built-in UHF RFID encoder. All of them print by direct thermal or thermal transfer, and all come with Ethernet, USB device, USB host and RS-232 serial as standard.

Key features and benefits
- Fast desktop throughput. Up to 8 ips (203 mm/s) at 203 dpi and an ARM Cortex-A7 processor give a quick first label, so packing and dispatch desks do not wait on the printer.
- 300 m ribbon capacity. Most desktop printers take shorter ribbons. A 300 m roll means fewer changeovers per shift and less operator time lost.
- Double-wall clamshell body. The reinforced plastic enclosure is built for busy desks, with a stated MTBF of 8,000 hours and an operating range of 5 to 40 °C.
- Colour 3.5" LCD with nine keys. Setup, calibration and print quality wizards run from the front panel, which cuts down on training and support calls.
- Wide language emulation. The T800 supports nine printer languages, including Printronix PGL and emulations such as ZGL (Zebra), STGL (Sato) and TGL (TEC). In most cases you can replace an existing printer without rewriting label formats.
- Remote fleet management. It works with PrintNet Enterprise, TSC Console Web and SOTI Connect (licence required), so IT can push firmware, change settings and watch printer status across sites. See our printer management software guide.
- Enterprise Wi-Fi security. The optional Wi-Fi supports WPA2 Enterprise with EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS and PEAP, which matters if your IT policy blocks consumer-grade wireless devices.
- RFID made simple (T82R/T83R). RAIN UHF encoding with a multi-position antenna handles non-standard inlay positions, and an RFID calibration routine feeds three labels to set the encoding position and power. On-pitch encoding works down to 0.625" (15.9 mm) labels, depending on the inlay.
- Quick deployment. Up to five configurations can be saved, and the quick change memory card lets you move settings to a replacement printer in minutes.
Best applications
The T800 is aimed at lower-volume enterprise printing where reliability and integration matter more than raw speed. Typical uses include:
- E-commerce and 3PL dispatch: 4 x 6 inch shipping labels for sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho, and carton labels at smaller 3PL packing stations.
- Manufacturing: product, item and carton labels at line-side or in stores, including MRP and batch labels for FMCG and auto-component suppliers.
- Retail: apparel tags, shelf-edge labels and durable goods labels; the RFID models support item-level tagging for stock accuracy.
- Healthcare: nursing stations, laboratories and pharmacy labels where a compact printer must still be dependable.
- Asset tracking: T82R and T83R encode UHF RFID tags for IT and equipment registers in offices, hospitals and plants.
How to choose the right T800
203 dpi or 300 dpi? Choose 203 dpi (T820 or T82R) for shipping labels, carton labels and normal-sized barcodes, where the faster 8 ips speed helps. Choose 300 dpi (T830 or T83R) when you print small text, small 2D codes such as DataMatrix or QR, or compact labels for pharma and electronics. Printheads are interchangeable between 203 and 300 dpi, so the decision is not permanent.
RFID now or later? RFID on the T800 is a factory-fitted option and cannot be added in the field. If an RFID mandate is likely in the next few years, buy the T82R or T83R from the start.
Direct thermal or thermal transfer? Direct thermal is fine for shipping labels with a short life. Use thermal transfer with a wax/resin or resin ribbon for labels that must survive handling, heat, chemicals or long storage.

The T800 takes labels, tags, paper, film and tickets on rolls or fan-fold, from 0.06 to 0.19 mm thick, on 1" or 1.5" cores. Ribbons can be 1" to 4.33" (25.4 to 110 mm) wide on 0.5" or 1" cores. Replacement printheads for the T800 need only a #1 Phillips screwdriver. Every new TSC and Printronix printer comes with the manufacturer's standard warranty against manufacturing defects. When you buy the printer you can add:
- Extended warranty, 1 year.
- Comprehensive warranty, 3 or 5 years. Comprehensive cover is not offered for 1 year.
Every warranty option must be bought together with the new printer. Comprehensive warranty cannot be added later. It replaces the standard warranty and runs from the printer's invoice date, so the total cover is 3 or 5 years, not 1 + 3 or 1 + 5. Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the T820 and T830?
Both are standard (non-RFID) T800 models. The T820 prints at 203 dpi and up to 8 ips (203 mm/s), while the T830 prints at 300 dpi and up to 6 ips (152 mm/s) for sharper small text and barcodes.
What do T82R and T83R mean?
They are the RFID versions of the T800. The T82R is the 203 dpi RFID model and the T83R is the 300 dpi RFID model. Both encode RAIN UHF (EPC Gen2 v2 / ISO 18000-63) labels while printing.
Is the T800 thermal transfer or direct thermal?
It supports both. Load a wax, wax/resin or resin ribbon for thermal transfer, or run direct thermal labels without a ribbon.
Can I add RFID to a standard T800 later?
No. RFID is a factory-only option on the T800, so choose the T82R or T83R at the time of purchase if you will need RFID.
