How to install a barcode printer driver

Windows

1. Download the Windows driver for your series and unzip it.
2. Run the installer as administrator, before connecting the printer by USB.
3. Choose Install printer drivers, then select your exact model and the port (USB, network IP or COM).
4. Open Printing Preferences and set the label width, height and gap or black mark to match your labels.
5. Choose direct thermal or thermal transfer, then print a test page.

macOS

1. Download and install the macOS driver package.
2. Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners and add the printer. For a network printer, add it by IP address.
3. Select the TSC or Printronix driver for your model, then set the paper size to your label size.

Linux

1. Download the Linux driver (CUPS) that matches your system (32-bit or 64-bit) and extract it.
2. Run the included install script with sudo, then add the printer in CUPS (http://localhost:631).
3. Set the label size in the printer options and print a test label.

After installing, calibrate the media sensor from the printer panel or with the Diagnostic Tool whenever you change label size or type.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

Where can I download the TSC printer driver for Windows 10 or Windows 11?

Open your printer series on this page and choose Driver – Windows. The TSC Windows driver supports Windows 7 to Windows 11 and Windows Server 2008 to 2022, in 32-bit and 64-bit editions. A WHQL-certified version is also listed. The files come directly from the official TSC Auto ID server.

Is there a macOS or Linux driver for TSC printers?

Yes. Most TSC desktop and industrial series have a macOS driver and Linux CUPS drivers (32-bit and 64-bit). Open your series above and look for Driver – macOS or Driver – Linux.

Which driver do I need for a Printronix T800, T4000, T6000e or T8000?

Use the Printronix Auto ID Windows PGL driver for Windows 10 and 11. Linux (PGL and PostScript), macOS and ChromeOS drivers are also available. All are listed under each Printronix series above.

Should I update my printer firmware?

Only if you have a specific problem the new firmware fixes, or if we advise it. Use the firmware file for your exact model, keep the printer powered during the update, and never interrupt it. If you are unsure, WhatsApp us your model and current firmware version first.

My printer prints blank labels or skips labels after installing the driver. What should I do?

This is usually a media setting, not a driver fault. Set the correct label size and media type (gap, black mark or continuous) in the driver, choose direct thermal or thermal transfer correctly, then run media calibration from the printer or the Diagnostic Tool.

Windows does not detect my TSC printer on USB. How do I fix it?

Try a different USB port and cable, install the Windows driver before connecting the printer, and run the USB Device Recognizer utility listed on this page. If the printer still does not appear, contact us for remote support.

How do I print barcode labels from SAP?

Download the SAP device type for TSC or Printronix Auto ID printers from this page and ask your SAP Basis team to import it. We can help with label layout and testing.
